Parkend Primary School

Religious Education

At Parkend we believe that it is vital for all our pupils to learn from and about religion so that they can understand where they belong and the wider world and community around them. Through Religious Education, pupils develop their knowledge of the world faiths, and their understanding and awareness of the beliefs, values and traditions of other individuals, societies, communities and cultures. This is linked in with other subjects such as PSHE and geography where appropriate and enables the children to make links with their learning. We encourage our pupils to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. We teach our children tolerance and respect by interweaving our values of SMSC through the RE curriculum as well as through our driver's belonging, building me, creativity, active adventure and communication. As a school, we address misconceptions and preconceptions through discussion and role-play to give children a balanced view so they can make their own informed choices and opinions.

We have links with the local community including Parkend church and Open the Book lead regular assemblies.
